Cirque recognised by UDIA as WA’s best development for 2019

Cirque Mt Pleasant has been recognised as Western Australia’s leading development by the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) WA, winning the prestigious Russel Perry Award for Urban Development Excellence which recognises the ‘best of the best’ in the State’s development sector.

Cirque was awarded the 2019 UDIA Award for Excellence in High Density Development at a gala dinner on Saturday evening, followed by the Russel Perry Award later in the evening.

The UDIA Awards recognise excellence across the full spectrum of urban development in Western Australia. The awards celebrate quality and innovation,  and pay tribute to leading projects across categories including Masterplanned Development, Urban Renewal and Environmental Excellence.

Stirling Capital Managing Director Luke Reinecke said the awards were a significant achievement for the the entire Stirling team.

“To win the UDIA award for Excellence in High Density Development on Saturday evening was an incredible achievement for us, but to then be recognised at a higher level – for overall excellence in urban development – is exceptionally special,” Mr Reinecke said.

“We could not be prouder to have received the 2019 Russel Perry award for Urban Development Excellence – it is the culmination of an immense amount of work by a large number of people and a great honour for the entire Stirling Capital team.”

Mr Reinecke said Cirque had set a new benchmark for residential development in WA with its unique blend of design excellence, utility, sustainability and community focus.

“The project blends beautiful, eye-catching design and sustainable luxury with public amenity and a true sense of place,” he said.

“Apartments feature large floorplans, high ceilings and sophisticated finishes, plus substantial balconies complete with full-height curved glass balustrades. Shared-resident facilities provide 1,500sqm of indoor and outdoor resort-style features on a resident’s deck, providing an unsurpassed level of amenity.

“The development includes a range of community amenities such as new streetscaping; an art-enhanced pedestrian link; a business centre; and retail space at street level. In addition, both residents and public have direct access to a 67sqm community business hub.”

Cirque also boasts best-in-class sustainability credibility, having been the first development of its type in WA to achieve a 5 Star Green Star design rating as determined by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). The project’s sustainability initiatives include use of natural cross ventilation and high-quality windows to maximise passive heating and cooling, a solar-powered central gas hot water plant, 60kW roof-mounted solar PV array and home energy and water metering systems which allow residents to track water and energy use.

Cirque’s success at the UDIA awards rounds out a trifecta of awards for the development in 2019, including The Harold Krantz Award for Architecture (awarded to architect MJA Studio) and the MBA Award for Construction – High Density (awarded to project builder Jaxon).

Following its wins at the UDIA WA awards, Cirque will now look to compete at the UDIA national awards in 2020.

Stirling Capital’s recognition at the 2019 UDIA WA Awards for Excellence also included:

  • Cirque – finalist, Award for Environmental Excellence
  • Verdant – finalist, Award for Excellence in High Density Development
  • The Boulevard Student Accommodation – finalist, Excellence in Social & Community Infrastructure
